Our Story

The Pivot.

When her restaurant was forced to close during the pandemic, Sarah Horak did what any Mom of three kids would do - whatever it takes. Along with her husband and business partner, they pivoted their businesses to a to-go only concept with a limited menu. They added Sarah's popular salted bittersweet chocolate chip cookie to the menu in the hopes to add on a little dessert sale to each order. They sold out and sold out and sold out. Sarah started making a variety of half pound cookies in additional the original (OG) cookie and those sold out week after week. By the end of 2020 it was obvious that they needed to separate the cookies into their own brand and thus, Real Good Cookies was born. The Real Good Cookies commercial kitchen was built out in 2021 and by the end of that year, they had shipped cookies to all 50 states and built out a ProMaster van as a food truck. Real Good Cookies has made and sold over 210,000 cookies and donated over $110,000 through cash and in kind donations to the greater Grand Forks community.

Our Story

We keep things simple by using quality ingredients, some of which are grown and harvested right in our backyard, like flour from the North Dakota State Mill and sugars from American Crystal Sugar. We bake in small batches to ensure quality and consistency in every batch.

Our goal is to make our cookies as ridiculous as possible. Half pound cookies? Yes. Different flavors every week? Yes. We've made hundreds of flavors and still get a thrill from seeing people's eyes light up when looking at the flavors and getting to bite into a Real Good Cookie.

Our cookies are available through four unique avenues:

Through our online shop, when a batch is in the works.

At our cookie van, at events throughout the summer and fall.

Through our select network of wholesale locations.

Through kids in our community working on a fundraiser campaign.

Real Good Cookies suspended operations in June 2024.
